I had an idea for a open-bodied, industrial inspired ceiling fan using nothing more than my 3D printer and a few parts, pieces (and a propellor) lying around the shop.
I utilized Autodesk Fusion to create a 3D model of the framework that incorporates all the parts and pieces I'd need to create this unique ceiling fan.
The motor and chain drive were sourced from a discarded e-bike and power is provided by a repurposed computer power supply. I lot of thought went into making this a durable and dependable ceiling fan for my office, since it was going to be ceiling mounted over my head!
Drive motor 12 volt
Drive system 3D printed and metal gear chain drive
Printer filament used PLA
The project was a great success. The fan is durable and quite effective for cooling. Still working well 4 years later!
Making sure it's balanced and functioning properly.
It's as not quiet as I'd hoped, but blowing lots of air!
